Life Cycles centers around the natural phases of life being cyclical, with many life forms experiencing life, death, and rebirth. Mimicking this cycle within Mother Nature, I am deeply inspired by the ways in which fruits, plants, and flowers are able to be preserved over time, extending their life and continuing that cycle of reproduction through recycled means. My collection tells a story about giving new life to old textiles, and giving life to that which has died and been regenerated. In my garments, I use deadstock and plant-based fabric and materials, such as hemp, organic cotton, and pineapple and cactus leather. The story behind Life Cycles attracts the eco-conscious consumer who looks for new and exciting ways to live a green lifestyle, and who seek ways to be both fashionable and sustainable. It is playful streetwear that can be worn at the farmer’s market as well as an art exhibit. It questions the way in which modern society is prompted to buy more, and discard more. However, when looking to nature for inspiration, it’s clear there should never be waste, as everything in nature plays a role and has a purpose.
