Genna Torgan grew up in Los Angeles, a place that very quickly catches onto trends. Experiencing this firsthand helped her realize from a young age that she doesn’t like them. As a designer, she strives for new, different, innovative, and above all, sustainable. Genna studied Fashion Design with a minor in Interdisciplinary Environmental Analysis at Washington University in St. Louis. She combined her studies in both through the work that she creates, and through her work was awarded the 2020 Riverbend Textiles Sustainability Award. Genna pushes for her designs to have a positive impact on the world. She does not want her creations to pollute the earth, therefore she aims to use natural dyes and fibers and upcycled textiles in her designs. This inspiration from nature also comes from her personal design aesthetic, which can be attributed to her hippie-dippy spirit and her passion for the Flower Power movement and the 60s and 70s. Genna loves playing with shapes, patterns, and prints, oftentimes changing her ideas and sketches throughout her design and creation processes as life around her changes. She is attracted to anything unique, weird, or unexpected. She pays close attention to detail and is very drawn to texture, asymmetry, and organic shapes, but most of all, Mother Nature’s beautiful gifts that surround her every day. Genna Torgan aims to work with creatives who also strive for sustainability in their designs. She hopes to one day enter the high fashion scene with her ideas on recycled and sustainable fashion.
